Europe is still hot, and wastewater monitoring suggests that we are going to see BA.2 variant outbreaks along the East coast and Texas as well. Life expectancy in the US has lost 2 years since the onset of the pandemic.
Some of this loss is probably due to the toll that COVID has exacted from older Americans, but part is probably the result of deaths of despair – drug overdoses, alcoholism, and suicide. Americans have fared less well than over industrialized countries. Alas.
