George Burns, of course. I could post about the thermal injuries that I saw during my medical career, but I have already done that in years past. Tonight, I have been thinking about lifespan. George famously said, “If I had known that I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.” George, I know what you meant.

Although the life expectancy of Americans is somewhere in the 76+ years at birth these days, the older one gets, the longer one’s life expectancy. That is, your odds of making it to age 90 are better if you are 80 than if you are 60. I’m 73. Mom lived to age 95. My odds of living another ten years, despite my chronic conditions and deleterious health-related behaviors are not that bad.

If you are younger than I am, you might want to give some thought to increasing your level of activity, following-up with your PCP as regards things like weight, blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol level. If you are older than I am, you could probably make meaningful recommendations to me. Kudos to you.

Of course, we are all screwed – destined to an unwelcomed end as are all living things. We must make the most of whatever time is allocated to us. 🙂
