It’s the French word for bastard, illegitimate child, or whoreson (a word that I learned today.) With the draft SCOTUS majority opinion that reverses Roe v Wade, we will need these words more than ever. We will be meeting and referring to the spawn of rapists and products of conception of incest. “Hey, aren’t you Mary’s bastard?” I so look forward to such social exchanges. Thank you, Samuel Alito.
But we’re going to be fine, regardless of Alito’s folly. By we, I mean boomers like us who either had no children or who are empty nesters. We don’t need no stinking abortions. Nobody is getting pregnant here. The kids and grandkids? They’re not our problem, right? We’re going to be fine.
We’re going to be fine. We, the financially independent, well-to-do. If one of ours needs an abortion, we will simply take her to a state where it is legal. And if Congress, in its self-aggrandized idiocy, decides to outlaw abortion everywhere, we will take ours to Canada. In Canada, abortion is legal on request until week 23 + 6-days without any special medical justification. It is also legal later in pregnancy if there are qualifying medical issues. Oh, Canada! We’re going to be fine.
The poor are fucked. Let’s face it. It is only the poor who struggle with their day-to-day needs who are going to suffer with this new SCOTUS opinion on Roe V Wade. The poor are disproportionately disabled, mentally challenged, under-educated, under-employed, otherwise disadvantaged, and almost always under-paid. Ours is such an egalitarian social and economic system; don’t you think?
In our society, the poor and the rich have complementary relationships. The poor need the rich from whose tables they accept scraps. The poor need the rich from whom to beg alms. The rich, in turn, need the poor who they can employ at wages that are at or below subsistence so they themselves can continue to become richer. The rich need the poor as cannon fodder in wars that will expand their markets and increase their profits. It’s a form of socio-economic symmetry, is it not? The poor are fucked.
