Texas Adds Delta-8 THC To List Of Illegal Drugs

The Texas Tribune (10/21, Reynolds) reports that “three years after federal legislation removed the marijuana extract known as delta-8 THC from the nation’s list of controlled substances, Texas health officials have put it on its own list of illegal drugs, sending a shockwave through the growing CBD retail industry across the state and making the substance, essentially, illegal.” The Texas Department of State Health Services “placed a notice in the rule change publication, the Texas Register.”

My Take: Delta-8, it seems, is mostly synthesized from legal CBD extracted from hemp. The synthesis has some nuances, and chemical purity is not guaranteed. https://cen.acs.org/biological-chemistry/natural-products/Delta-8-THC-craze-concerns/99/i31

It seems that the manufacturers of CBD had a huge inventory, and they needed a new product in order to move it. It’s always about the money.

I bought shares of CGC, aka Canopy Growth Corp, a year ago, and I divested myself of this loser yesterday – ahead of this announcement. Sigh.
