This week’s COVID update from Dr. Klotman gives us a cautiously optimistic view of the pandemic. Lilly presents her 10-point plan for pandemic preparedness which is probably as sound as anything that the Gates Foundation proposes. The major risks continue to be:
- Cavalier governmental decisions and individual behaviors that may affect public health and containment of the pandemic
- Flagging vaccine and booster uptake – especially among the most vulnerable
- Stupid political games on capitol hill that impair our ability to advance vaccinology and the development of therapeutics
- Emerging novel virus variants which, almost by definition, will be more contagious than what we have already seen
We are going to have to slog through the COVID apocalypse this fall and winter, I think.
