Of all the Godzilla movies, I like the 1998 Roland Emmerich version the best. I know that the Cognoscenti opine otherwise. Screw them, I say. The character, Audrey Timmonds, has an excellent line that she delivers in a bar when her former, self-absorbed, misogynist, news anchor boss on the TV refers to the creature as “Godzilla;” she answers, “It’s Gojira, you moron.”
In the last decade or so, we have seen the arrival of Texas Spiny Lizards in Central Texas. We have taken to calling them Gojira. Susan noticed a few weeks ago that we had not recently seen the large ones that had made their home in our back porch. They’re insectivorous, and there is no want of roaches out on the front deck or around the back porch. Nonetheless, we had not seen them recently.
Today, I caught sight of this one – a 10″ specimen from nose to tail, I estimate. It may be a “she,” we think. She was on the house wall facing the front deck. We had seen two smaller ones yesterday. What a treat to see them again.
