I know that you’ve been waiting all week for Dr. Klotman’s weekly COVID update, and here it is. The most interesting things about COVID this week are:
- Only 10% of Americans eligible for the bi-valent booster have actually taken it. Expect more hospitalizations and deaths among the other 90%.
- Other than Omicron BA.5 that still accounts for ~40% of new COVID cases in the US, there are four other variants that account for the majority of cases. Nature seems to have decided to give us a smorgasbord of new variants to complicate our ability to stymie this disease.
- In the Southeastern US, Influenza and RSV infections are far outpacing COVID for now.
- The wastewater surveillance data suggest we will be seeing a resurgence of COVID cases in the coming months.
Nothing but good news, right? Sigh. Get your Flu shot and bi-valent COVID booster if you haven’t had them yet.
