Yeah, this is another political rant.

I’m not suggesting that all Republicans are cowards but that the ethos of the party itself is one of cowardice. Bravery faces adversity head-on rather than cowers before it. Cowardice attacks the weak, the voiceless, and the marginalized – not the powerful. Bravery moves with haste and decisiveness against injustice; cowardice moves timidly – averting its gaze in order to avoid a confrontation that could threaten it.

The Republican party, in state houses and in Congress, is ready to don its bib and knee pads to kneel before the powerful and rich to fellate them for the benefit of their support. It prostitutes itself to lobbyists and the donor class at the snap of a finger.

Democrats stand for trans children who have no advocates but their parents; for drag queen storytellers whose only support comes from librarians and chidren; and for LGBTQ folks whose only lobby consists of friends and family. Republicans are the party of a powerful Philistine army. Democrats are the party of a young boy with little more than a sling and a stone.

Yet, the Party of Cowardice marches under the flag of Jesus. There is 2nd Amendment Jesus (2AJ) who preached that his followers should all strap up with AR-15s and be prepared to do unto others before anything is done to them – 2AJ admonishes his followers that if slapped by an adversary, they should stand their ground. They are strapped up, after all.

There is also White Grievance Jesus (WGJ) who has granted the world and everything in it to white Christian Nationalists. WGJ sees Africans, Latinos, Asians and other non-whites as inferior. WGJ does not acknowledge heretics and apostates such as atheists, Muslims, Jews, and Mormons as his people. I don’t know whether he indulges immigrants or Catholics either.

If your party can only do the bidding of the rich and powerful, you have signed up with a party of cowardice – a party that asks only what you can do to keep it in power and not what it can do for you and yours.
