Where is the Right to Life crowd when unarmed people at a lawful protest are shot to death by a 17-yo playing soldier/vigilante on the streets? Where are those voices when unarmed people of color engaged in ordinary human activities are gunned down by armed white men who find people darker-skinned than they themselves are “suspicious” or scary. Nowhere. That’s where. The right to life crowd isn’t about protecting the lives or rights of anyone; they are about curtailing the rights of others – women, and especially those that are poor.
Ours is an increasingly militarized, armed, and violent society. I am not impressed that the police, lawmakers or the judiciary are doing anything to curb those excesses. In fact, some of them seem to be actively fanning the hatred and violence. Let’s arm every man, woman and child. Guns are “cool.” Just ask Kyle Rittenhouse.
If the Trump, Bannon and Miller ilk have their way, a full-scale Civil War may well erupt. If it does, I wonder what historians will say caused it. Federal over-reach interfering with States Rights? I’m going with fear and loathing of “the other.” Sigh.
