It’s advice to investors. The recommendation is to invest in stocks or funds when the price of an asset is lower than usual as a result of soured investor sentiment rather than actual structural problems in the company or fund. But that’s not the dip I’m talking about.

I’m talking about Dip – hummus, bean, spinach, spinach-artichoke, spicy salsa, avocado, French-onion, and others meant for chips and veggies. For the record, hummus doesn’t do it for me. I absolutely love garbanzos, but I want mine whole in Pozole or perhaps a spicy Channa – not as a paste. Still, some of my close friends love hummus. It takes all kinds.

The other day, shopping at the Central Market (CM) on an empty stomach, I passed the refrigerated area where my favorite Tzatziki brand is on display. I noticed that the same company makes a spinach dip. I salivated like Kedi when I open a bag of kitty treats in her presence. I picked up a tub of the dip and put it in my basket. I later bought a bag of baked Pita chips – Italian spice flavor. Yummy!

Once home, I put some of the dip in a small dish that I use for mis en place and opened the bag of pita chips. The experience of tasting this dip was unsatisfying. Merde! Later, I invited Susan to taste it. “Do you love it or hate it?” I asked. Eating a chip with spinach dip, “I’m not sure,” she answered. We chatted a bit and both recalled that the CM makes its own spinach dip. They display it in the Deli area alongside freshly made salsas, basil pesto, and similar spreads. I resolved to remedy the spinach dip fiasco with the good stuff from the CM deli.

The following day, I went to the CM deli area and scooped up some Spinach-Artichoke dip. I brought it home, and we both tried it. It wasn’t the dip of my younger years. Perhaps our tastebuds are aging or perhaps, like the memories of our youthful romances, their allure and delight are exaggerated by failing memory. Yes, the sex was good, but she was insufferable, and that’s why we went our separate ways. I haven’t had spinach-artichoke dip in years, and maybe there is a good reason for that as well. Both spinach dips are going into tomorrow’s composting. Sigh.

A couple of days ago, we were talking about French-onion dip. I have looked for it at the CM, and they do not have it. They have a French-onion cream cheese, but I don’t think that’s what I want. I plan to go to Randall’s tomorrow to pick up some French-onion dip and a tray of veggies.

I really hope the French-onion dip porn is as good as we both remember it. If it isn’t, there is always bean dip. Sigh.
