Here is Dr. Klotman’s Week 183 Update. It addresses recent COVID news, and also touches on Influenza and RSV.
The highlights are:
- The COVID variant responsible for most new US infections is EG.5 – a descendant of the XBB strain
- The current wave of US COVID is expected to crest in January this time
- The new COVID vaccine based on XBB.1.5 is expected to provide adequate protection from EG.5 as well as BA.2.86
- BA.2.86 has been found in ten states, but it still represents a small number of new cases
- There isn’t much Influenza activity yet; Flu tends to begin in mid- to late fall and continue into winter, but it is hard to predict with any degree of accuracy
- There are two new RSV vaccines, and the one from Glaxo-Smith-Klein (GSK) seems to give longer lasting protection for seniors.
I invite you to listen to the entire update. Dr. Klotman has a good stage presence and is an excellent teacher.
My sister-in-law, a retired Biochemist who worked for Merck, sent me this interview of Dr. Anthony Fauci with Mehdi Hassan. If you, like me, missed it when it aired, here it is.
The bottom line this week is that I need three vaccinations this month: COVID, Influenza, and RSV. Sigh. Getting sick and winding up in the hospital would be worse. Susan says we need to lay in adequate supplies of wine before we get our shots. That way, if we get the feel bads after our vaccinations, we can just stay home and call out for food.
We make a wonderfully dysfunctional team. 🙂
