A fatwa is an interpretation of Sharia law given by an Islamic jurist or legal scholar. If you are a geriatric boomer or even a younger Gen-Xer, you likely remember that Ruhollah Khomeini called for Salman Rushdie’s death after his book The Satanic Verses was published in the 1988. Subsequently, there have been multiple attempts on Rushdie’s life – all at the hands of true believers who assumed the mantle of executioner carrying out the death sentence handed down by Khomeini.
In the USA, a court may pronounce a death sentence on a person guilty of some heinous crime, but it is a law enforcement officer or a group of them who, after a person is sentenced and has had their due process, carry out the execution. We do not delegate executions to bounty hunters or vigilantes – until now, that is.
His Most Senile Orange Putridness has issued a fatwa for the death of General Milley, doxed and defamed a law clerk, and made fatwa-like pronouncements regarding judges and attorneys general involved in his indictments, and vilified poll workers and others. The purpose of these verbal ejaculations is to incite violence – to be carried out by his MAGA true believers whose fervor is no less than religious fanaticism.
Trumps followers are in a cult, and their response to his incitements is no different than a fatwa. And to think that these morons were terrified that Sharia Law would come to America. They have become the very thing that they said they feared. Alas.
