For this evening’s dinner, I decided that I would serve a Mexican shrimp cocktail and some Japanese sashimi. The cocktail was inspired by one of our favorite Mexican eateries that disappeared a few years ago during the gentrification of the South Lamar (SoLa) district. The folks at La Feria used to prepare a wonderful shrimp cocktail that was based on a red sauce kicked up with chopped scallions, jicama sticks, diced jalapenos, cilantro, and lime. I made mine using a base of mango remoulade from the Central Market. The sashimi was half tuna and half salmon.

I decided to buy chilled Sake for the occasion. The store had Sake in bottles from $65 to $35 to $7.97. You know that I bought the inexpensive one. My palate wouldn’t know the difference, but my credit card would. It was a tasty dinner that looked like this.
