In the medical sense, blood poisoning refers to sepsis – a condition caused by a massive invasion of the body by bacteria. It often occurs after a localized infection, unattended, gains access the circulatory system and spreads to multiple vital organs. Untreated it is rapidly fatal; even with treatment, it has a high mortality rate.
Every few years, I find myself posting about Sex with Aliens. My thesis is that deep in all DNA, there are coded behaviors that lead many or perhaps most species to pair with partners who are similar but different (modoki in Japanese). Such parings bring together partners of different racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds – often yielding offspring more fit to thrive than either parent. It can even bring together partners of related but distinct species – albeit sometimes resulting in sterile offspring (ex: mules).
I most often think of the Sex with Aliens thesis because of xenophobic, anti-immigrant, political rhetoric. Donald Trump, Stephen Miller, and their Nazi-adjacent ilk rail against the blood of America being poisoned by immigrants. It’s the rhetoric of Mein Kampf that claims that the pure Aryan race, if ever it existed, died out because its blood was replaced by that of immigrants. Nonsense!
The distinct groups intermarried and probably became more successful because of it. The biological notion is called hybrid vigor. It can result in stronger and more diverse immune responses making the offspring of such unions more disease resistant than either parent – a synergy otherwise not accessible through ethnic purity (inbreeding).
So, all of Trump’s rhetoric is nothing more than racist, anti-scientific nonsense. Further proof that this would-be Führer is a lying demagogue incapable of actual reasoning and truth.
And, if we are going to start deporting immigrants, let’s start with that Slovenian trollop. She is poisoning the blood of America, according to Trump.
