This week’s blog post is a Good News – Bad News affair. Dr. Klotman’s Week 200 update is notable for its focus on BCM’s R&D in Surgical Oncology. It is definitely worth a listen.

COVID doesn’t even get a passing mention. It’s almost as if it is under control. Spoiler alert, it isn’t, but the increases in cases and deaths continue to be in my peer group – 70+ and those with chronic conditions.

The NYT has a nice weekly summary regarding COVID activity based on CDC data. The hospitalizations per 100K residents is reported there by state sorted from the most cases to the fewest. The rates probably reflect multiple factors including:

  • Vaccination rates
  • Age of the population
  • The weather (more indoor time in colder areas)
  • Social behaviors such as masking and social distancing/isolation

As bad as things may be, they are orders of magnitude better than in the worst of the COVID apocalypse. Stay safe.
