If you are anything like me, you may have wondered what the Cortés foxes have been up to. I can report that they get recorded by my outdoor critter cams several times a week.

Recently, I saw one curl up on an ottoman on our covered back porch. A second fox trotted past the recumbent one. The resting fox triggered the camera several times over the course of perhaps ten minutes. Like your dogs and our cats, the fox got up several times, turned clockwise or counterclockwise and curled up again on its cushion. After ten minutes or so, it jumped down, extended its front paws far ahead of its frame in a downward dog yoga pose. That stretch so reminded me of Maia’s morning stretches as she greets me each morning.

This morning, at 12:01 AM, I saw two foxes trot across the front deck as I watched TV. They triggered the critter cam. Below you can see one approach the low water feature for a drink. The other one goes to the deck steps that lead to the front yard. I think that these are a mated pair who have had multiple litters together.

Winter is fox mating season, and this Vixen and Tod pair are probably setting up housekeeping somewhere nearby. I haven’t seen them enter the space beneath the deck, but there are other places nearby that could serve as their natal den.
