We went to bed early last night without my posting my latest culinary porn experiment. Walking through the grocery store yesterday, I spotted a display of morel mushrooms. I’ve seen them used on Food TV shows – usually added whole to a risotto or other dish. At $69/lb, I thought I would add just a few – sliced or diced in the dinner’s basmati rice.

I bought three – $6 worth, and sauteed them in butter with sliced green onions. When they were done, I added them to Susan’s pot of simmering Basmati rice.

The rest of the meal was giant scallops and Cajun grilled gulf oysters – a meal I prepare once or twice a month. Susan took some pictures of me cooking, and I choose this one because I am not in it.

The plated meal appears below. The morels have a subtle umami flavor. We may have to try them whole – maybe when we win the lottery.
