This week, Dr. Klotman resumes his video updates with the Week 211 Update. The highlights are:

  • COVID, RSV and Influenza are all declining as we enter warmer weather.
  • Despite declining, Influenza is still the most active respiratory virus at this time.
  • Wastewater viral loads are decreasing for all respiratory viruses.
  • COVID vaccine reduces the risk of hospitalization in immuncompromised folks, yet only 18% of those individuals have chosen to take the vaccine. Sigh.
  • Texas recently reported a human case of H5N1 avian influenza. The person affected was a dairy worker exposed infected dairy cows.
  • So far, there is no evidence of human-to-human spread of the H5N1 flu. Whew!
  • If you have backyard poultry (ducks, chickens, etc.), they are at risk of contracting H5N1 from wild birds including migratory species that are heading north this time of year.
