Here is Dr. Klotman’s Week 212 video update. The highlights are few but heartening.
- COVID hospitalizations are down among all age groups
- The CDC’s travelers’ monitoring program shows lower levels of COVID
- The dominant COVID strain continues to be JN.1 as cases of JN.1.13 begin to increase
- Wastewater levels of COVID are down across the country
- New studies of groups of patients with long COVID have identified various protein markers for the condition – some associated with persistent inflammation, others with respiratory symptoms, and still others with intestinal symptoms
- There is still Influenza A activity in Texas, but overall Flu and RSV cases are declining
BCM participated in a March Madness type competition for biomedical sciences and won recognition for its development of the Texas viral wastewater monitoring program that has become a national program. I don’t think that anyone got a monetary reward.
