In Italian, it means the head of a branch of a criminal syndicate – an individual who we, in English, might call a kingpin. As an aside, Vincent Denofrio played the Marvel character Kingpin in a couple of TV series – most recently in the Marvel property Echo. I don’t recall whether Kingpin wore a red tie and oversized overcoat, but Denofrio could have pulled it off with aplomb.
Now that DJT has been handed convictions on all 34 of his NY criminal indictments and is a properly convicted felon, my mind turns to his sentencing, punishment, and political future. My FB friends have posted everything from laments that their pantries have no champagne to recommending red hats declaring, “Lock Him Up Already!” I share those sentiments, of course, but I want to see the second and third parts of this saga.
I realize that convicted of low-level felony counts, DJT may not get prison time. I think that giving him parole, home confinement, fines, or anything other than actual prison time would be a gross miscarriage of justice. Remember that it was Trump’s own Dept of Justice that handed Michael Cohen a three-year prison sentence, 50+ days of which were in solitary, for the same crime of which Individual #1 is now convicted. Symmetry and Justice demand at least four years of prison for this misanthrope – he was the kingpin in the very conspiracy that sent Cohen to prison.
I hope that Judge Merchan sentences this felon to at least four years of prison with some time in solitary – for his own protection, of course. As for his political future, I hope that the Republican Party Convention, scheduled for a few days after DJT’s sentencing, is thrown into a melee with a devoted Trump faction and the remnants of GOP chanting, “Lock Him Up, Lock Him Up!”
And I want to see the Christian Right reveal itself there for what it is – little more than latter day Pharisees. They are sanctimonious rather than saintly. They are less Christian than they are Hypocritical. They love neither freedom, nor justice, nor their neighbors. They are in love with Power. Let them unmask themselves as they abase themselves before Trump – their golden idol.
