Dr. Klotman’s Week 223 video update is about Measles – COVID is hardly mentioned. Most of my FB friends are too old to be worrying about measles since we were born in era during which childhood measles was ubiquitous. These days, people playing amateur pediatrician for their children may forego MMR vaccination. Those children are the targets of measles imported by out of country travelers. Alas.

On the COVID front, cases are spiking again albeit with far less morbidity and mortality than years ago during the worst of the COVID apocalypse. We should expect a COVID vaccine update based on one of the KP variants (KP.1.1, KP.2, or KP.3) or perhaps JN.1 this fall. I haven’t had another XBB.1.5 strain vaccine this summer; I’m waiting for the fall update. If you are immunosuppressed or taking medicines that can weaken your immune system, you may want a COVID XBB.1.5 booster before the new vaccine becomes available.
