It rained this morning. We got about an inch, and it was welcome. The clouds cleared partly by early afternoon. The new solar astronomy rig on the deck doesn’t have an unobstructed view of the Sun until about 2:30PM. By the time that I had an unobstructed view of the Sun, the sky was mostly clear.
The sun is very active, and as you can see below, there are prominences, filaments, and plages galore.

I enlarged the righthand limb of this image to highlight some prominences including a loop prominence that reminds me of the arches in Arches National Park in Utah. I’m still exploring the capabilities of this instrument, and I hope that my solar images will improve as I learn more. Let’s see what tomorrow brings. 🙂
