I saw a political post from a friend today. In the comments I saw this, “So tell me what policies Kamala Harris advocates for that make you want to vote for her. I’m curious.” It sounds like a reasonable question – seeking information in order to understand another person’s perspective. The truth, I think, is far different. It is more likely a typical social media invitation to a pissing contest of some kind.

I don’t know how my friend would answer this question other than to describe the ways in which VP Harris’ opposition is unfit for office, but that doesn’t address the actual question that was posed.

I would offer that VPs don’t make policy – that lies in the hands of Congress and the President. Our current do-nothing Congress has all but stonewalled anything that President Biden has championed. Despite that, Biden did manage to get several key infrastructure bills past the do-nothing MAGA caucus’ blockade.

As for Harris’ proposed policies, I would point to Gun Safety legislation, Tax fairness legislation that focuses on helping middle class families and raising the poor out of poverty rather than giving billionaires even more of the country’s largess. Then I would point out that unlike VP candidate Vance, Presidential candidate Harris supports one person one vote – not disenfranchising minorities and likely voters who lean toward the Democratic Party. I would also say that I support her folksy, former DA, idea that criminals, including those formerly in high public office, should be held accountable for their crimes. I’m looking at you, Donald.

I could go on, but it makes no sense for me to argue my case in front of an absent opponent. All I can say is that the question posed seems disingenuous, and I have no need to engage in a pissing contest except perhaps as a thought experiment. I have done that, and I hit the water.
