I have a couple of good friends who are Steak & Potato people. I confess to eating this particular meal almost weekly, but it isn’t a daily routine. Let’s face it, this kind of diet is too high in both cholesterol and calories to be optimal. I say that recognizing that the excess calories in a potato come not from the spud itself but from all the crap that we heap upon it. Alas!
Dinner this Friday was a boneless ribeye that I cooked on the outdoor grill and a potato that Susan prepared in the kitchen broiler. The spuds got butter, sour cream, and shredded cheddar & jack cheeses – hence the excess calories. I suppose that it is a good thing that we have completed our estate plan.
The Friday dinner debauchery looked like this.

The green salad (let’s not talk about the creamy bleu cheese dressing), Serrano pepper, and my daily dose of Rosuvastatin all helped to lower the LDL cholesterol load of this particular evening’s indulgence.
Death eventually comes for all of us. I would rather mine come in the form of an over-indulgent meal than as a bullet in the melee of a mass shooting.
