Today was partly cloudy – a result of Hurricane Francine’s course along the Texas coast as it heads to Louisiana and beyond. Still, there were opportunities to record the Sun this afternoon. There is a new sunspot group in the upper, southeastern hemisphere as yet unnamed. The solar disk and its spots looked like this:

At the top of the Eastern limb prominences is a plasma jet/streamer that probably reaches 100K miles or more above the solar surface. The Earth would appear to be a tiny bead along that path – Earth’s diameter is a mere 7,926 miles! The prominences along the northern solar limb appear to be delicate arches.
