Here is Dr. Klotman’s Week 292 video address. The highlights follow:

H5N1 Bird Flu

  • This week there have been 49 recent outbreaks of H5N1 in US poultry flocks
  • Most of the outbreaks have occurred in the northern states bordering Canada
  • A few outbreaks have occurred along the East Coast and in Arkansas
  • The outbreaks reflect migratory bird flyways of which there are four that cross the US
  • The main carriers of H5N1 are migrating ducks, geese, and swans
  • While raptors, owls, and land fowl can be affected – H5N1 is not common among them
  • Songbirds are rarely affected
  • The CDC is no longer tracking H5N1 among livestock
  • The USDA is supposed to track H5N1 outbreaks among domestic flocks and herds
  • During the current government shutdown, nobody is tracking anything
  • There haven’t been any recent human cases of H5N1

Pandemic Preparation

  • An m-RNA vaccine based on older H5N1 Influenza strains appeared to confer immunity against current H5N1 infection among Macaques – a primate model
  • Of course, HHS head Robert F Kennedy, Jr has defunded federal m-RNA research

TEPHI Wastewater Data

  • COVID viral levels in Texas wastewater have peaked and have dropped rapidly
  • Adenovirus (a respiratory virus) levels are increasing
  • Mpox levels are also increasing

Influenza A

  • Japan and Malaysia are experiencing Influenza epidemics – both are relatively early
  • A possible explanation is travel from countries like Australia to those countries
  • The main flu strain circulating in the Southern hemisphere has been H3N2
  • The current Flu vaccine is about 50% effective in reducing hospitalizations and clinic visits for that strain

m-RNA Vaccine Risks

  • A French study of a half-million first trimester pregnancies showed no risk of fetal malformations among children whose mothers were given m-RNA vaccines
  • A similar but smaller study in Canada confirmed the safety of m-RNA vaccines given during the first trimester of pregnancy

My 2-cents

Although Dr. Klotman did not address it and despite the fact that you didn’t ask, I want to offer that Pigeons and Doves rarely get H5N1 influenza. When they do, they most often show few if any symptoms. So, if during this government shutdown, you have to resort to eating squab to make ends meet, just cook it well and you should be safe.
