Here’s the link to Dr. Klotman’s Week 293 video address. My notes follow.
Tylenol and Autism
- This association is based on sloppy research that has been debunked due to huge methodological flaws
- Studies that suggest an association between acetaminophen and autism do not control for the effects of maternal febrile illnesses alone – which are known to cause neurological injury to the developing fetus
- The best study was one that compared rates of autism in siblings who did and didn’t have gestational exposure to acetaminophen. That study found no association at all.
- Ken Paxton, Texas (R) AG is suing the maker of Tylenol over this bogus position that RFK Jr. taken at HHS
- Every professional society continues to endorse the use of Tylenol for febrile maternal illnesses during pregnancy
Measles
- We have a second, large outbreak of Measles in Arizona bordering Utah
- So, far there have been 120 reported cases
- We’re up to 1600+ Measles cases in the US this year
m-RNA vaccines and Cancer
- Recent studies have shown that folks who have Melanoma or Small-cell Lung cancer do better if vaccinated against COVID with an m-RNA vaccine
- This effect was observed among patients taking “checkpoint inhibitor” therapy for their malignancy and receiving their COVID jab within 100 days of that therapy
- The research team that reported this effect in Nature News in late October, plans further research into this association
- Something similar has been seen in studies of the Shingles vaccine (Shingrix) in which vaccinated folks have a 50% reduction in vascular dementia and heart disease
Respiratory Virus Season
- Recent efficacy studies of this year’s Flu vaccine show it to be 50% effective in preventing both clinic visits and hospitalizations
- The RSV vaccine is 92% effective in preventing severe respiratory illness in folks 60+ years of age
My own notes
My other medical newsletters report that:
- Childhood RSV infections have increased three-fold in Texas during the past month. Serious infections can land children 2 years or younger in the hospital with a disease called bonchiolitis – inflammation of the middle-size air channels in the respiratory tree. We saw a lot of this as medical students in the 1970s long before there was an effective vaccine and antibody treatments.
- A systematic review of 511 studies into Flu, RSV, and COVID vaccines are all safe and effective against serious illness in people of all ages. Protection for infants is best achieved by maternal vaccination during gestation, of course.
