I have followed Pope Francis’ pontificate with interest despite my being neither a Catholic nor a Christian. To me, the Pope is a quasi-political figure with a considerable amount of “oompf.” More than the Orange Horrificus, for sure. On the whole, I have judged his pronouncements and positions to be largely consistent with secular humanism. I mean that as sincere praise for a post that has most often promulgated fantasy, hatred and division rather than fact, science and healing, in my atheist opinion.
Recently, Pope Francis has pronounced that people who have few or no children or have pets rather than children are diminishing humanity. Whether intended or not, he has taken a position against family planning and contraception. Surely, it is also a position against abortion as well. Francis doesn’t know or care, but he has taken a position against me and mine.
Susan and I have but one child. It wasn’t actually our plan, but that is what Nature had planned for us. Francis might do well to consider the possibility that his God had that plan for us and others who have few or no children. I’m not a believer; so, I cannot say. Today, we have two kittens soon to grow into cats. They are our way of expressing parental love. I think that Nature deserves that from us for gifting us with a wonderful child so many years ago. Francis should consider the fact that Susan and I are so old that we are infertile, and that bringing pets into our lives is as valid an expression of love for Life as bearing children that we can no longer produce.
Then there is the matter of the hypocrisy of the Catholic priesthood. Yes, I’m talking about some old Pope who has never fathered a child (that we know about). Is that not the epitome of selfishness that diminishes humanity? Who the fuck is this or any other Pope to piss on the rest of us for not having children because we are “selfish?” Francis, I admire you, and I think you a good and thoughtful man, but on this particular topic, all I can say is, “Go and fuck yourself! At least go and jerk off, Pendejo.”
Do not come to us about family planning when that is exactly what you yourself have done. You have chosen to give yourself to the “mother church” in celibacy while denying humanity of natural offspring. You are a ridiculous caricature of the very thing you criticize.
My cats, my friends’ cats, my friends’ dogs, my friends’ gerbils, hamsters, horses, and plants; yes, fucking plants, are all human expressions of our love and reverence for living things – for life. You need to fuck with a woman and create a baby of your own or you need to shut the fuck up on this topic because otherwise, you are simply full of religious arrogance and shit.
