Today was a rare day for solar activity. This year, the sun has been at the peak of its 11-year sunspot cycle. Today, there were no active regions at all! Not one sunspot. Below, today’s H-alpha image shows a few filaments (dark lines on the solar disk that represent prominences en face) and complex prominences along the sun’s NW, SW, SE, and NE limbs.
