You can watch Dr. Klotman’s Week 310 video address here. My summary and comments follow.
Vaccines
- Researchers are exploring “broad spectrum” vaccines in mice models. The idea is to activate the immune system using some “alarm bell” molecules (encased in a liposome) that modulate the immune response.
- The effect of this “liposomal vaccine” was to shorten the time that the immune system takes to respond to a new foreign antigen – virus, bacteria, or allergen.
- Recent studies show no link between maternal vaccination for COVID and autism among their children.
- Meningococcal meningitis cases have been increasing in the US since 2021, and yet the CDC has removed the recommendation for vaccination for young people.
- Rotavirus and RSV vaccines for kids are no longer recommended by the CDC. Expect to see more preventable pediatric deaths from both diseases.
- The CDC no longer recommends Hepatitis B vaccine for infants. Expect to see more cases of vaccine-preventable childhood cirrhosis and hepatoma (liver cancer).
My Comment: The mouse model strategy isn’t so much a vaccine as it is an immune system primer of sorts. Until this work in mice, most immune modulation strategies have focused on down-regulating rather than stimulating immune – e.g. suppressing autoimmune responses. The other thought is how long it will take RFK and his minions to defund this kind of research. The new CDC childhood vaccination schedule is a travesty of quack science.
Measles
- Spread of the virus continues. If goes on for 12+ months without abating, the US, like Canada, will lose its designation as a Measles-free country.
- So far, we have had 972 cases this year. 94% were unvaccinated; 3% had had only one of the two recommended doses of MMR vaccine. This is the same pattern we saw in 2025. Vaccination works!
- 38 cases have required hospitalization.
- South Carolina and Utah are the current Measles hot spots. Florida is #3.
- There are >15 cases in at least five other states, and sporadic cases in another 20.
Political Crap
- The NIAID (government agency focused on Infectious Diseases) had sent out a directive to scrub government web sites of references to Biodefense and Pandemic Preparedness.
- The message heralds a defunding of projects that would prepare the US for another COVID or similar deadly pandemic.
My Comment: We saw how well this strategy worked during the first Trump term. It was such a rush; let’s do it again! Who needs a stockpile of ventilators and personal protective equipment? We can afford a few million preventable deaths. We can always make more people, right?
TEPHI curves
- As respiratory virus season draws to a close, wastewater virus levels are falling for most diseases except RSV and Human metapneumovirus.
- COVID levels remain low.
- Influenza cases are falling, but Influenza is still spreading.
