Although I was born in 1949 and grew up in my childhood home until the age of 15, I think of myself as a child of the sixties. I left home in 1965, at the tender age of 16, to live alone in another city and attend a major university. The following four years, I completed my undergraduate degree, got a job in the defense industry, enrolled in graduate school, and got married. I also learned to drink alcohol, eat raw oysters on the half-shell, smoke weed, and eat fondue. It was a busy four years.
Tonight, I decided to use leftovers from our fridge to recapture some of my early adulthood. I had shredded Gruyere and Swiss on hand, Chardonnay, and some garlic Polish sausages. I found an online “Yummly” recipe for cheese fondue, and I set about to recapture some of that sense of the 60s. Susan was my willing accomplice.
Below is the fondue of Gruyere and Swiss, a French baguette that Susan broke down for the purpose of dipping, and our Polish sausages with a coarsely ground mustard. Yum.

There were neither raw oysters nor weed to be had. Alas!
Shades of days gone by!
I think I got three fondue pots/set ups for wedding gifts in 1964! It was a favorite meal for the kids too! I may still have one buried somewhere. I often see them in the thrift stores! It always brings back fond memories. Thanks for another reminder. 🙂
PS
We could have fixed you up with both easily here (Oregon for readers where both are abundant!!!)n
Yep. Maybe someday Susan and I will come to visit. 🙂
Yes, “It always brings back fond(ue) memories. 🙂
