It was mere minutes after Barack Obama won the presidency before the RWNJ’s of the White Right started referring to FLOTUS Michelle Obama as an “angry black woman.” It was code, of course. Angry, when I was a child in the 50’s, would have been rendered as “uppity,” a person who did not know their place. So much has not changed since the segregationist 50’s. Alas.
Tonight, as Susan and I ate a pizza at the dining room table, Joy Reid presented one of her segments in her usual, high-energy style.
Susan: “How can she deliver her segments with such energy?”
Me: “She’s an angry black woman. Her’s isn’t the sham rage of fragile and aggrieved white men. It is the indignation of people who have known injustice for a few centuries. That’s a considerable source of righteous energy.”
