Messier 106 is a galaxy in the constellation Canis Venatici – the hunting dogs. I think that dogs get more sky than cats. There are the constellations of Leo, Leo minor and Lynx, of course, but otherwise, the dogs dominate.

I have never before made an image of M106, and this one is not really something to write home about. This image represents 2hrs of exposures through the mid-sized, 130mm astrograph with a light pollution filter.

M106 is an intermediate spiral galaxy. Below, it appears in a widefield view – the composite of 119, 60-second frames at ISO1600 through a light pollution filter. Another couple of hours of data would be nice, I think.

I’m going to try to gather another couple of hours of data later this week. Perhaps the resulting image will be clearer.
