Susan and I have watched all the aired seasons of the Paramount+ series Discovery – a Star Trek series based on some fanciful tech including a space drive called the Spore Drive that can move the starship through an intergalactic mycelial network. As I said, it’s fanciful – I find the Alcubierre warp drive much more plausible, but then that’s just me.

The series has a gay male couple who deal with many of the issues that straight couples do. They are also an inter-racial couple. I wonder whether the Supreme Court will outlaw the portrayal of such characters on TV; we live in strange times. Tig Notaro is also a cast member – lesbian mom of two kids that she had with her wife. She doesn’t present as LGBTQ+ on Discovery, but she is in real life. Maybe Florida and Texas will censor the series just as they have censored books about LGBTQ+ lives, the stories of slaves and slavery, and so on ad nauseum.

I like Discovery for many reasons, but none more than the possibility that it bites conservatives in the crotch.
