The concept of indirect reference is common in computing. A direct reference might be something like, “the cat,” whereas an indirect reference might be, “the critter in the box.” You would have to look in “the box” to see who or what was there, of course.

This post is my no-spoiler review of a movie that we watched tonight on Paramount +; my review is based on indirection. The flick was The Lost City.

This movie is a story akin to Romancing the Stone. It has a storyline based on a romance novelist and her social supports including a publicist, a Fabio-like male lead cum book cover beef cake, and an arch-rival and his minions. It is part Tomb Raider Cradle of Life, a dash of Kong (Volcanic Island), and just a tad of Indiana Jones (improbable pre-Hispanic history as in Raiders of the Lost Ark).

I find such movies, when they are done well, both humorous and delightfully entertaining. All of the movies that reference above, fit that bill. This one does not disappoint. We laughed a lot and thoroughly enjoyed the light-hearted, feckless romance of the main characters – played by Sandra Bullock and Channing Tatum.

I recommend it if you, like we, are in need of some light-hearted fantasy fare. Enjoy.
