Susan and I decided to watch Thor: The Dark World tonight. She has watched it once before, and I think that I have watched it at least three times. Neither of us remembers a damn thing about it. I suspect that we fell asleep during each showing of the movie. This evening’s viewing was stimulated after reading an article concerning the upcoming MCU title Thor: Love and Thunder. The article asserted that if one didn’t remember the story of The Dark World, one should watch it prior to attending Love and Thunder.

We sat in the living room watching it, and we each repeatedly commented things such as, “Shit, I don’t remember that scene!” After a bit, we began to recognize scenes, and it dawned on us that each of those scenes had been embedded in Avengers: Endgame. We remembered nothing of the original movie – just what was revisited in a subsequent MCU blockbuster movie.

At one point, near the end of the movie, I paused it to take a bathroom break, and Susan said she was going to go close the laundry room. I had barely made it to the hallway when I heard her scream. I figured that a roach or some other critter had jumped on her. A bit later, I asked her what had startled her. “As I stepped out on the back porch, something growled or screamed at me,” she said. It seemed a bit odd to me.

A little later, I turned on the light on the front deck and ventured out. I heard the loud growl. I pulled out my phone and launched the flashlight app. Scanning the driveway, I noticed two pairs of eyes reflecting back at me. I heard the growl again. I focused in on the eyes and realized that it was a pair of foxes.

We haven’t seen the foxes much this year. One evening, I think that I saw a foxtail dodge across the deck’s French doors. Tonight, I saw them at a distance. I told Susan that the critters that had startled her were foxes, and that seemed to have a calming effect. We hold them no ill will. We just haven’t previously heard their vocalizations.
