In honor of the July 4th weekend, Susan and I watched this 2019 Chinese movie. It is in Mandarin except for the speaking roles of a few Americans who speak English. It has subtitles, in case that is a deal-breaker for you. This Sci-Fi flick is in the spirit of the 1996 American movie Independence Day.
Earth has required a resource that is very beneficial to humanity but also very attractive to aliens who, predictably, come to steal from the Earth that which they can. Friendships, the aspirations of young people, military service, and unrequited love are the sub-plots. This version of the alien apocalypse is more downbeat than the Independence Day movies.
The CGI is generally excellent as is the wirework and the depictions of mano-a-mano combat. Or should I say. mano-a-claw? In either case, this flick has high production value. I recommend it.
