We went to our Go-To TexMex spot, El Jacalito, earlier this afternoon while it was still cool outside – a balmy 102F. I had my favorite small bowl of Menudo (see below), and Susan had Spinach Quesadillas. When we got home, I checked the remote sensor that reports the temperature inside the backyard observatory. It was 111F with 14% humidity – not good for precision optical instruments. I went outside and opened up the dome careful to position it so that the telescope was in its shade. The temperature quickly fell to a cool 107F.

The ambient temperature has increased from 102F earlier today to 105F just a minute ago. Later this week, we are expecting peak temperatures of 108F. All this heat is hard on instruments as well as plants.

  1. All you in Texas have been on my mind and in my prayers. I am happy to know that you and Susan went out to eat. The joy of a cool restaurant and no heat from cooking at home! Hang in there!
    The food looks lovely.
Sarah went to pick up our grocery order and stopped at our nearby Mexican drive through. I enjoyed a wonderful breakfast burrito. She got a taquito plate which was so abundant that she enjoyed two meals from it!
Thanks for sharing with us. Keep cool, hydrate hydrate hydrate and do not overdo.(Says the nurse to the two docs. LOL) Seriously, take care!

    1. Thank you.

I’m glad you can get burritos way out there. 🙂

Susan and I are being responsible geriatric folks – staying indoors and venturing out only for the most brief of jaunts. And, we keep our feline entourage indoors and well hydrated as well.

We hope to visit Nebraska, Estes Park and New Mexico later this summer when the heat is worse.

      Stay cool.

    1. Me too – since I was a young child. But, neither cilantro nor spicy peppers nor tripe work for everyone.

I try to think about it as did Spock – infinite diversity in infinite combinations to create meaning and beauty. 🙂
