Susan and I are eating yesterday’s leftover BBQ with an MSNBC program playing in the background. It’s the Reidout with Joy Reid. She shows us a clip of a Senate Committee hearing on the impact of the Dobbs decision. Josh Hawley asks whether women ever “give birth” to anything other than humans. The person being questioned is a law professor.
Me: “Well Senator Hawley, sometimes women give birth to tumors like a hydatidiform mole – aka the product of a molar pregnancy. That’s not actually a baby.”
Susan is shaking her head. “This moron must be an early adopter of anti-science.”
Joy Reid’s story unfolds and takes us to Rep. Jody Hice who asks, “Has a woman ever given birth to a non-human like a turtle or maybe a breakfast taco?”
Susan doesn’t miss a beat. “Why yes, of course. Mitch McConnell is the best example of a woman bearing a turtle.”
