In my blog post of June 24th, 2002, I posited that striking down abortion rights would have Unexpected Consequences that might include things such as decreased access to obstetrical care and higher maternal mortality rates. Well, we didn’t have to wait long for those consequences after women realized that the right to contraception would fall next. Here we go. You have likely seen similar stories in the state and national news.

I find this ironic since it seems likely that the anti-abortion moment is at least in part fueled by White Anxiety stemming from the realization that immigration and higher birth rates among minority population citizens will render the Master Race a minority in a decade or two. The same White Anxiety fuels gerrymandering and voter suppression laws, I think.

So, while anti-abortion forces seek to increase the proportion of white babies being born, the exact opposite is likely to happen. The women who can afford the cost of sterilization and the cost of travel for abortion will be disproportionately well-to-do and White. Expect the fertility rate for White Women to fall. Bye, bye Master Race. You did it to yourselves.

I expect more untended consequences of the anti-abortion movement to unfold unless our country comes to its senses.
