The COVID Apocalypse continues to recede, and that’s news to celebrate. Today, Dr. Klotman gives us his Week 126 pandemic update. The wastewater viral loads appear to be declining; the world’s reports of COVID hospitalizations, cases and deaths are all in retreat albeit, the deaths more slowly because they are a trailing indicator of viral havoc. Britain has approved an updated, bivalent COVID vaccine, and both a Moderna and Pfizer vaccine should be available to Americans within weeks, I think.
The cases of monkeypox continue to expand worldwide. Alas. Our pandemic response capacity is simply pathetic – incompetent and impotent. It has been and continues to be hobbled by political thinking and administrivial stupidity. Sigh. It reminds me of the Russian response to Chernobyl.
Let’s see whether the Russian handling of the nuclear power plant at Zaporizhzhia is similarly plagued by political hubris, military arrogance and naked human stupidity. Alas!
