Here is Week 128 of Dr. Klotman’s COVID updates. The US case numbers, like the worldwide numbers continue to decrease. New bivalent vaccines that cover the Omicron BA.4 and BA.5 sub-variants will probably become widely available within the week. Of course, the virus continues to mutate. We now have a BA.4.6 variant, but don’t yet know whether it will be more transmissible, more virulent or better able to escape our vaccine-induced immunity. What else were we to expect? It is just doing what viruses do.
Monkeypox cases are falling rapidly, and it seems likely that this is the result of changing social behaviors among MSMs. I guess that Public Health measures to interrupt epidemic diseases really do work when the public actually follows the directions of public health authorities. Politics and partisanship are adversaries of science and public health. Sigh.
