Yesterday evening, I went to the backyard observatory to open it up for a night of astrophotography. On the way there, I noticed that the blue mistflower was attended solely by Monarchs; everyone else had sought shelter for the night. This afternoon, the mistflower is teeming with butterflies – a dozen Monarchs and as many Queens, Firey skippers, Orange Sulfurs, Buckeyes, a solitary Black swallowtail and a few American snouts.

I’m a little surprised that there weren’t more snouts since their migration has begun. Perhaps they prefer other nectar sources. The scene was a bit frenetic, and it looked like this:
