Dr Klotman is back from vacation, and he gives us a brief COVID update. The XBB.1.5 Omicron sub-variant that I mentioned last week accounting for some 20% of US COVID infections now accounts for 40% – it’s a highly contagious little bugger, and it seems to evade the immunity conferred by prior infection as well as vaccination. Fortunately, it is not more virulent that former strains; so, infection among those who have been previously infected and/or vaccinated tends to be mild or even asymptomatic. I take my good news where I can find it.
Dr. Klotman seems to agree that the Chinese COVID reports are political bullshit rather than factual epidemiology. I don’t get why the Chinese politicos don’t understand that accurate information is key to pandemic control. I guess it is the same kind of political arrogance that led to the Chernobyl meltdown. Sigh.
No matter. Here we are in a pandemic, global economic melt-down, with science deniers and conspiracy theorists in ascendance. I’ve little doubt that they will lead us to the promised land. Right, Kevin? Right, Donald? Pendejos all.
