Susan and I went to see Avatar: The Way of Water this afternoon. We opted for the 3D version because the theater appeared to be near empty. We arrived about 2PM for this 3-hour marathon, and we were not disappointed.

Like so many of his other theatrical works, James Horner’s music for Avatar is a majestic, orchestral masterpiece. It complemented the movie beautifully, I would say.

Where in the original Avatar we saw the forests and floating sky islands of Pandora’s forests, this movie shows us its oceans, islands and lifeforms. The sea life is wonderfully imagined and rendered – alien fish, mantis, huge flying-fish and whale-like creatures.

All that I will say about the plot is that this is a movie about family – loyalties, sibling rivalries, conflicts, and all the messy drama that occurs in every family. We enjoyed it thoroughly. I have to warn you that when you get to the close of the story, I think you, like me, will be left with the feeling that you have just seen Part I of a two-part story.
