A couple of weeks ago, the Monterrey Oak in the deck was full of buds in the wake of the last Winter storm. Yesterday afternoon, I sat on the deck and realized that the tree was full of full-sized leaves. It’s funny how we sometimes seem unaware of the signs of change until the change is all but done.
There were four Titmice flitting in and out of the overstory – flying back and forth between the much taller Elm (Ulmus crassifolia) and the Monterrey Oak (Quercus polymorpha). I reflected for a moment on the return of Spring and my friend Allan’s FB posts on his appreciation of birds at a feeder in sight of his condo’s balcony. Like Allan, I too derive pleasure from observing the birds.
This morning, there were two pairs of house finches flitting in the boughs of the oak tree, visiting the taller of the two water features, and lighting on the railing around the deck.

Later, Susan and I drove to see our hair stylist for a His & Her trim. The roadsides were covered in Texas Bluebonnets and Indian Paint Brushes. Spring is here, I think.
