It’s one of terms that clinical folks use to describe disturbances of appetite; the other common ones are anorexia and dysgeusia. Early satiety means that a person who was eating normally now seems to lose appetite after just a few bites of food. Anorexia, you likely know, means a loss of appetite. Dysgeusia is a distortion or loss of taste – the kind of thing that can happen when you start taking some medicine that gives everything a metallic taste or perhaps what happens to some folks who get COVID.
In any case, these kinds of appetite disturbances are common when folks get ill. Most often, they resolve when the illness resolves. When they do not, we worry about things like serious chronic infections and cancer.
I’ve been on antibiotics for about 8 days, and my appetite is still off. This evening, I made PEB tacos. PEB stands for potato, egg and bugs – made from the leftovers of our most recent bug fest. I ate mine as a scramble. Susan made hers into actual tacos. We had some avocado slices and salsa with our PEB tacos/scramble. Susan said they were tasty. I wouldn’t know. The meal looked like this.

I look forward to the end of my antibiotic course and the return of my normal appetite. Sigh.
Why are you on antibiotics ?
