My SIL sent me an email this morning with the picture below and the rhetorical question, “I wonder what they are talking about?”

You’ve probably seen this image of Thomas smoking a cigar at one of billionaire Harlan Crow’s retreats. Harlan is to Thomas’ left and the other three to his right are luminaries from conservative thinktanks like the Heritage Foundation and Federalist Society.

So, my SIL’s question is relevant, what are they discussing? Perhaps they are planning their next big fishing trip or their next RV tour of America’s heartland to see all the Walmart or Home Depot parking lots. I rather doubt it. These are high-powered intellectuals – movers and shakers. They’re discussing matters of philosophical import.

Like what? I’m glad you asked. Let me suggest some weighty topics.

  • How gender-affirming care for trans children represents an existential threat to American heterosexual majority. Can such care be outlawed because there is no deeply rooted, historical basis for it in America?
  • Whether the SCOTUS can remove gender, queer and minority studies from American education since there is no textual interpretation of the Constitution to protect them?
  • How the courts can use textualist arguments to thwart the progressive left.
  • The value of bringing Christian worship back into the schools in order to curb gun violence. Well, if not that then at least to prepare children to give their lives with equanimity when the next acolyte of 2nd Amendment Jesus comes to their school to harvest their souls.
  • How wresting reproductive autonomy from women can curb the march of immigration and multi-culturalism as forces to replace America’s White, Heterosexual, Christian majority.

There are many other philosophical discussions like these that focus on how to enshrine White Christian Nationalism in America that would be legitimate topics of discussion in a conclave such as this one.
