We decided last night that our dinner today would be a grilled boneless ribeye and eggplant parmesan a la Susan. I bought this beautiful aubergine at the Central Market today. It was one among many beautiful specimens of the fruit. I brought it home and put it on the dining room table, and Susan declared it as a perfect specimen. I told her that there was only one other like it – kept in the National Bureau of Standards (aka NIST – National Institute of Standards and Technology).

The produce at the market at this time of year is beautiful.

I grilled the boneless ribeye, and Susan prepared a simple side salad and her eggplant parmesan. We got stuffed at dinner.

This morning, Susan told me that she’d received a notice that one of her workmates and our fellow physician had experienced a sudden stroke and died a few days later. He was just a few years older than we. We should eat, drink and be merry for our tomorrows are numbered.
