Every year, we get dozens of unwanted Elm and Hackberry saplings. These trees seem to produce millions of seeds, and although only a small percentage sprouts, it’s enough to create hours of work to clear them out. Any sapling that is ignored more than a few months becomes a challenge to remove. Most often, we cut them off as close to the ground as possible. Unfortunately, that isn’t enough to end them; they come back from the root. Perhaps I should douse them with Agent Orange too. Sigh.
Today, our lawn maintenance service came over to take care of clearing out dead wood from one of our Live Oaks, and to remove the largest of the Hackberry saplings. I’m talking 14′ or taller trees with 4″ diameter trunks. Now that all of that work is done, the side and back yards look tidier. At the end of his workday, the older fellow who came to do the work commented on how pretty our gray fox looked. I’d had no idea that the fox would come to watch him work!
Later, Susan prepared a couple of lamb loin chops and a small Mediterranean salad for dinner.

As we sat down to dinner, Mr. News came to take a rest on the back porch. He relaxed for a short while, but soon enough, he left on his fox errands.

Your resident Fox 🦊 has surely been making himself to home! Amazing and wonderful! Love the updates and the photos!
